Types of Retaining Walls

Natural Stone

Natural stone walls are perfect for creating a timeless, natural look. They can be constructed in both curved and straight designs and paired with timber for a stunning contrast. Whether you need a wall just a few meters high or taller, natural stone walls offer both durability and beauty.

Concrete Sleeper

Backyard Retaining Wall Transformation

 

From an overgrown, uneven backyard to a clean, level, usable space, this project shows how the right retaining walls can completely change how you use your outdoor area.

Before – sloping, wasted space

  • The original yard was sloped, with long grass, bamboo and no clear structure or usable lawn.
  • Drainage was unmanaged, and the existing rock edges did little to hold the bank or define garden areas.
  • Access around the yard was awkward, making it hard to maintain and almost impossible to enjoy for outdoor living.

After – safe, level and low maintenance

  • New retaining walls create multiple-level terraces, turning the slope into flat, practical areas for kids, pets and entertaining.
  • ​Integrated stairs connect the levels, giving safe, easy access from the house down into the yard.
  • Fresh turf and clean garden edges reduce maintenance and give a neat, modern look that complements the existing fencing.
  • Correctly installed drainage behind the walls helps move water away from the house and prevents future movement or damage.
